The grand plan is to eventually host lots of photographers’ work here. Most, if not all of them will be better than me. I’m cool with that.

If you’d like me to post your shots — whether you’re a professional photographer or just a camera tinkerer like me — pop me an e-mail and send me a few samples of your work.

Fatts | Beijing, China

Born in Saudi Arabia, brought up in Montreal and currently living in China, Husain Amer usually gets people interested when he mentions three continents in the first minute of a first meeting. He earns his living as a photographer and filmmaker, and just might be the only Palestinian living in Beijing.

Where his memory for history and politics are lacking, his affinity for others’ emotions has led him to his craft; every chance he gets, he’ll explore feeling with pictures — moving or otherwise — and he’s never happier than when he’s behind a camera.

Jinryu | Seoul, South Korea

Kevin “Jinryu” Yee is a Chinese-born Canadian, described by the knowing as obsessive and promiscuous in his activities. He’s worked as a sweatshop screwdriver, a reptile and fish zoologist, a one-man IT department and a hospital manager. He also speaks a handful of languages (badly), all at once if he’s had too much. We’re not sure what his talents are but he’s competed in enough music, martial arts, badminton, writing and cycling events to know that really, he knows nothing about the world. He currently resides in South Korea, where he is a teacher who specializes in his own ignorance. At night he studies Taekwondo and Korean. He is single and looking for the woman of his dreams, who for every moment he searches for her, she too is searching for him.

Maïra Christine | Longueuil, Canada

Ever since she can remember, Maïra has been drawn by the fantastic world of cinema, and loves the chaotic silence photography brings to life. Raised in English, French and Portuguese, she completed a certificate in video production at Concordia University and took some classes in photography. She particularly loved the darkroom courses, where she spent hours at a time working on her pictures in near-darkness. She generally works with film — usually black and white — but is no purist, and likes playing around with Photoshop too. Among other things, Maïra plays the surdo in a Brazilian percussion band and studies capoeira. She loves art in every form she’s found it, travels whenever she can, and does her best to keep the learning and discoveries coming.

Ricky | Calgary, Canada

Ricky Leong takes pictures for fun. His favourite subjects are often hidden in urban cores: city lights at night, patterns on pavement, shadows from textures on walls, and the like. Landscape/nature photography comes a close second for him, and he’s hoping to start capturing more images of people. When he’s not snapping shots, he’s having fun making newspapers as a news editor at the Calgary Sun and writes a column there. Ricky also worked for the Montreal Gazette as a copy editor and reporter after graduating in 2002 from the Journalism program at Concordia University in Montreal. Apart from photography, Ricky enjoys indoor bouldering, hiking and other outdoorsy activities.
