I'm glad you're okay too, Fatts, and I'll look forward to that e-mail.

And journalism doesn't have to be devoid of feeling and expression to be excellent. In fact, the best articles describe real people and their emotions, rather than taking a macro-level "many people killed today, now for the weather" approach. There's a difference between showcasing raw emotion in order to make a community's story heard, and commercializing raw emotion to sell ad space à la CNN.

Hey Chris, I'll admit, I hadn't thought of that. Pew is actually pretty respected, but if anything, I'd seen them as having the opposite bias, as an American organization looking to pressure the Chinese government into bowing to its citizens' demands for expanded rights and liberties. Doesn't look like they were able to do that, though.

I'm actually going to look up this journalist and read her articles!
Unfortunately, whether we argue about the life and death of journalism, hundreds of thousands of people are dead all over the place in that area... I'm starting to think that there really is a man-made conspiracy.

Fatts I'm glad you're OK.

It definitely journalism, just with a touch of poetry and sorrow. There information in there, perhaps bias, one could argue, but it's real to me.

Some people here in China are terrified. Mark, I'll send you an email I got from my friend in Xian. He's a teacher there and the university students had a tough time with this. Many of them slept in the football field for the first nights since they were to scared of another quake.

It's sweet, but not journalism. So, yes, it's still dead.

Hey Mark...
Interesting article. I also wonder if the inflated numbers are in part because of the company carrying out the survey. It sounds like Pew Internet and American Life Project is a group with their own special interests, part of which might be convincing people that tightly controlled internet content is not so bad after all!
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd still like to know what the organization's agenda is.

I dont feel that all people who are white and do not vote for Obama are racist, but to deny that many will not vote for him just because he is black would be a blatant denial of reality. I am from small town America and I know that many blacks can not even be promoted to head supervisor at the local mill more less become president of this great United States. The time is not right for Hillary or Obama, you would need another two generations to die off in order for this nation to purge itself of its bigotry and sexism. Both are well qualified but will face problems because they do not fit the standard model of white, older, male ( dont forget wealthy).
