reality show contestants compete to keep their real-life jobs

It’s a sign of time times — the economy’s in the toilet, America lost 694,000 jobs in March, and a three-bedroom bungalow in Detroit will set you back a cool $500. The natural response to all this? A reality show, of course.

And no, Donald Trump isn’t in it.

Proving yet again that America will always have a wealth of ethically challenged bottom-feeders poised to profit from others’ misery, FOX is working on a new reality show called “Someone’s Gotta Go,” in which real employees at a real company decide which real colleague gets a real pink slip.

News.com.au reports:

If handled properly, the new show, called Someone’s Gotta Go, could help society understand what it’s like to lose your job, at a time of great economic uncertainty, says Dr O’Donnell.

Each episode features a struggling small company that opens its books to staff, who then decide who to cut.

“There could be a very powerful effect, but it totally depends on the sensitivity of the producers,” says Dr O’Donnell.

Which is good, because if there’s anything that FOX is known for, it’s sensitivity.

With all the office politics and popularity contests in the business world, you can just about guarantee that the most useless employee generally won’t be the one who gets sacked. Would you trust your own co-workers to make the right call? And I know there’s always been a market for gossip about celebrities who hurl themselves into the limelight. Still, I can’t help feeling that we’re reaching an even lower low when we start watching regular joes get fired for fun.
