Surely it had nothing to do with the title of G&R’s new record. And since when do Chinese foreign affairs officials moonlight as music critics?
The Hong Kong-based South China
Morning Post reports:
In a rare comment on rock’n’roll, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang dismissed the creative output of US rock band Guns N’ Roses as unpalatable for adults. “I know a lot of people don’t like music like this. It is too coarse and too loud,” Mr Qin said in response to a journalist’s question about the band’s latest album Chinese Democracy – its first in 20 years. A song of the same name on the album pointed the finger at Beijing’s “iron fist”. Some mainland media and netizens have responded strongly, calling the band just another lame addition to the list of western pop stars who “know nothing about the country but use China-bashing to attract attention”.
It’s true that nobody likes loud music — that must be why G&R has sold a paltry 100 million records worldwide. Pfft, bloody amateurs…

I agree with them, but do you suppose they could have another reason for bashing G&R?
