As of 1:00 a.m. EST Monday morning, Hurricane Gustav seems just a few hours away from hitting Louisiana. Ninety-five per cent of the city’s residents have apparently left the city, and 2,800 police officers and National Guard troops are enforcing a dusk-to-dawn curfew to limit looting.
I checked out a few New Orleans traffic webcams to see what the city looks like right now, and the shots are eerie — no people, no cars, no nothing. As well, two New Orleans bars — the Tropical Isle and the Funky Pirate — operate a webcam on the corner Bourbon and Orleans that updates every three minutes. No one there either.
For constantly updated Gustav information, your one-stop shop is the Hurricane Gustav Wiki, with info on shelters, help lines, emergency services and more. Lots more info at Boing Boing, too.
