In response to international condemnation of its unilateral invasion of Georgia, Russia has given notice that it will suspend all military cooperation with NATO and its 26 member states. Standing up for nations’ rights everywhere, Russia has taken the position that the world has no business interfering in the affairs of a sovereign nation just because it decided to invade a sovereign nation. Also, Russia said its dad could beat up NATO’s dad.
Employing the classic I’m-rubber-and-you’re-glue defence, Washington insisted that its dad was in fact way stronger than Russia’s.
Nuh-uh, said Russia.
Against this backdrop of sophisticated international diplomacy, analysts are warning that the deepening NATO-Russia divide hurts both sides and benefits no one — least of all the poor Georgians who for weeks have had Russian troops tromping through their yards.
