Between tax, duties, shipping from Japan and the cost of the actual album, I just spent a little over ¥5700 on this CD. If you know how many dollars that is — and how “frugal” I tend to be — you know it’s very likely the most expensive record I’ve ever bought, and it was worth every yen. (The only kicker is that I was in Fukuoka a month ago and didn’t think to look for it then…)
If you’ve been lamenting the lack of innovative new trance music, check out Emancipator’s “Anthem,” “Shook” (an excellent Sigur Ros cover) and “With Rainy Eyes” at his MySpace page — or you can just shell out a fistful of yen. The first time I heard “Anthem” at thesixtyone, I must have looped it 50 times in a row. And you’ve got to love a guy with a bio like this — he’s a veritable Chuck Norris:
Emancipator escaped from the Underground Railroad Chain Gang in the 11th century. He invented the hot air balloon, with which he charted the Amazon River. He invented wine.
Emancipator found the formula for the crystallization of ice during a quiet Japanese winter. He perfected the art of agriculture. He can climb trees faster than you.
Emancipator bleeds ambrosia. He discovered Iceland. He can breathe underwater.
Emancipator lives in a fortress made of moon rock. His presence attracts songbirds. He can recite all the digits of pi.

Hey Mark!
Are you a Sigur Ros fan too? Remind me to show you the Heima DVD sometime.
