The city of Surat, in Gandhi’s home state of Gujarat, was in full-blown panic mode yesterday when officials found 18 live bombs scattered across town. Three more were found today.
Fortunately for Surat’s 4.5 million people — and unfortunately for the inept terrorist-types who planted the bombs — they all contained a circuitry flaw that prevented them from detonating. India was already reeling after another string bombs killed 49 people and wounded 156 in the city of Ahmedabad on July 26. A few days before that, eight bombs in Bangalore killed two more people. And in May, six bombs detonated over a span of 15 minutes in Jaipur, leaving at least 80 people dead.
And America thinks it has terrorism problems?
Speaking of America, you’d think that a police haul of three dozen live bombs — and a major near-miss terrorist attack in a huge urban area — would be a shoe-in to get coverage on Sensationalist Alley, but strangely it didn’t make CNN’s top stories — they did, after all, have to save a spot for this piece on the new Bond theme song which, incidentally, will be a “double-O duet.”
