Woo hoo! Here’s a timeline for historically minded folk.
February 5: After years of putting it off, flickeringpictures.com finally launches, and a brave new world of news, views and oddity exploration is born. And for some crazy reason I decide to add at least an extra half hour of work to my day, nearly every day, for as long as this site exists. Which I’m hoping will be a good long time.
March 7: Alexa.com lists us as the 11,810,854th most popular site on the Internet. I’m happy just to have a working site, and I’m particularly thrilled after three (ultimately successful) hours spent trying to figure out how to get my little airplane icon into the navigation bar up there.
April 14: Alexa ranks us 6,085,062th. I have me a drink to celebrate.
June 9: Cutting a swath through the Internet hordes with gritted teeth and flashing steel, we push our way to the 1,281,854th spot!
According to a Hawaii state government task force, there are 1.4 billion registered websites (16.8 million of which apparently mention George Clooney), so I’d say we’re doing alright for ourselves.
Thanks for reading this, and for being one of the thousands of people from 90 countries, colonies, territories and protectorates all over the world who’ve taken the time to visit my little corner of webdom. I’m getting all teary-eyed, so I’ll leave it at that, but seriously, thanks for coming by.
