So I decided to run a little experiment — disabling the feature that requires commenters to provide an e-mail address before their comments are posted. I’m really not looking to e-mail anyone, so I thought I could make things a little easier for good people with interesting ideas to share.
Turns out it wasn’t such a good idea, and since I made the change about a week ago I’ve been spending a good bit of time deleting spam comments. Spammers, it seems, don’t provide e-mail addresses — fake or otherwise. At least most of the time. Except when they do.
So, until I come up with a better solution, you’ll need to put something in the “name” and “e-mail” fields when you post. Doesn’t make a lick of a difference to me if it’s fake, though if it is, I’d rather it at least be something entertaining. You know, like wil@wilwheaton.net, or karl.rove@foxnews.com. Something like that.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
