There’s something just beautiful about this. And something creepy…
ASIMO can run, speak, climb stairs, serve coffee, navigate through crowds of people, link up to computer networks, deliver weather reports and recognize faces, speech and environments. He works as a receptionist at Honda’s offices in Saitama, Japan.
In case you’re interested, ASIMO is taking some time off work for his world tour. He’s already shown off his sprinting in Lisbon, danced in Kiev, held press conferences in Cyprus and entertained schoolchildren in Johannesburg.
Thanks Asher!

I go with creepy. I hate to point out the obvious, but he’s not human! I wish real conductors were given as much attention as this little guy!
I know a guy who once saw a conductor on TV and turned to me and asked if all of that waving meant anything. The answer I gave was a resounding, “yes!” Conducting is an art that few refine to a decent level, and while it’s impressive that this little bot did what it did, I’ve seen amateurs in their first concert for their undergrad conducting class at McGill doing better. It’s sad that ASIMO conducting impresses some people more than a real conductor like Vladimir Ashkenazy or Zubin Mehta conducting real people playing real instruments in a real orchestra.
I like people.
