garfield minus garfield

When I was a kid, I used to read the comics in the newspaper religiously, rarely missing a day. I only ever skipped Garfield, because it isn’t funny, and Doonesbury, because I didn’t get the politics. Today I get Doonesbury, but Garfield still sucks.

Strangely though, if you cut out the cat, it’s actually pretty amusing. Some guy has gone through what look like hundreds of old Garfield strips, editing out the obnoxious title character, and the result is a existential, sometimes entertaining and often creepy example of addition by subtraction. From the site:

Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb.

Am I a bad/deranged person for laughing at these?
