flickering pictures

Just a quick note to say that as soon as I get my Flickr account set up, I’ll be linking to my photos from Bhagsu/McLeod Ganj, Delhi, Bangalore, Mangalore, Udupi, Varanasi and Sarnath. Update coming soon.

Here are a couple of teasers for now - up top, Bhagsu children under a really cool sky. I believe that ramshackle ad-covered building on the left is actually their school. Also, you can’t tell from the picture, but there’s quite a cliff where they’re sitting.

Below is a shot of the obelisk in front of Japanese temple in Sarnath, near the stone pillar where the Buddha is said to have given his first teaching. In the second one below, lovably mischievous Sarnath kids pose for a picture, ecstatic after I give them a few small gifts I picked up in a Bangalore market. The little girl is wearing bracelets made of those styrofoam wrappers we use to wrap fragile or expensive fruit, and she adores them.
